Move over shiraz gins and barrel aged gins, here is the new standard: Prohibition shiraz barrel aged gin! We have aged a 59% expression of our original gin in custom coopered barrels which formerly held American bourbon, then most recently Barossa Valley shiraz – recharred and now giving new life to our shiraz barrel aged gin. This overproof blush coloured spirit is soft and silky with a gentle shiraz note and rich oaked rye back-note. It’s punchy, yet still maintains the vanilla and floral notes which define Prohibition gins – perfect on ice, with soda or in your favourite cocktail!

Tasting Note

NOSE: A wave of ripe Shiraz grapes washes over you, followed by the familiar piney whisper of juniper and a hint of citrus and spice.

PALATE: The initial sip bursts with the juicy sweetness of ripe blackberries and plums, seamlessly blending with the classic gin botanicals. Juniper and coriander dance on the tongue, adding a crisp counterpoint to the fruitiness.

FINISH: The finish is long and smooth, leaving you with a lingering memory of Shiraz-infused gin magic.

It all began in 2015 when two mates from Adelaide hatched a crazy plan to start a gin distillery. One had a history in the food & beverage industry, the other – a graphic designer – passionate about creating brands. From humble beginnings in an inner-suburbs back yard garage to becoming an Adelaide institution, the Prohibition brand soon became a success.

Prohibition opened the doors to their city Distillery in 2017, featuring a beautiful 900L Copper Pot Still, ‘Mary’. A few years later the venue expanded with the opening of Bootleg Coffee Co and Next Door cocktail bar.
